IRS Extension of 1031 Exchange Deadlines Due to Coronavirus Pandemic 2020

On Thursday April 9th, 2020 the IRS released Notice 2020-23.

This notice extends the time period for various tax related actions and filings including the time period deadlines within a 1031 exchange.

The consensus from this notice is that time periods within 1031 exchanges (45 day identification period and 180 day exchange period) which ended or will end between April 1st and July 15th, 2020 are extended to July 15, 2020.

There remains some unanswered questions regarding how this extension will affect certain exchangers. At Gain 1031 Exchange Company we will continue to monitor any further guidance from the IRS and provide that information as it becomes available.
